Domain switching of PLZT 9/65/35 in ferroelectric electron emission

2000
Ferroelectric domain switching of PLZT 9/65/35 under high voltage polarization reversal was examined by domain visualization and XRD techniques. A dry powder technique and an improved liquid toner technique revealed the surface charge distribution under the poling and the 180/spl deg/ domain switching during the polarization reversal. The X-ray diffraction analysis identified that the poled and de-poled PLZT 9/65/35 samples were in the same tetragonal phase, but the lattice was enlarged during the poling process. For the de-poled PLZT sample, a=4.054 /spl Aring/ and c=4.075 /spl Aring/, while for the poled sample a=4.060 /spl Aring/ and c=4.085 /spl Aring/. Under the specific electrode configuration used, only about 2% domains rotated 90/spl deg/ during the poling process and about 1% domain rotated 90/spl deg/ during the polarization reversal. It was shown that most of the domain switching was 180/spl deg/ switching.
