Primary Mucinous Cystadenocarcinoma of the Retroperitonum Masquerading as an Ovarian Cyst: A Case Report

2003
Primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma (PRMC) is a rare tumor with an uncertain histogenesis. Only 21 cases have been reported in the world literature. The histology is characteristically similar to the ovarian counterparts with the presence of borderline and malignant mucinous epithelium butno identifiable ovarian tissue at the tumor site. A similar case of retroperitoneal mucinous tumor in a middle-aged woman is presented. The relevant literature to date is reviewed so as to define the origin and prognosis of this tumor better.
