Preparation and study of controlled‐release formulations of carbon‐14 labelled butachlor

Controlled‐release formulations of carbon‐14 labelled butachlor herbicide were prepared in calcium alginate and the rate of release of the herbicide from the formulation was studied in static water contained in open and closed vessels. The addition of kaolin to the formulations was found to slow down the release of butachlor and consequently reduced its environmental loss. The loss of herbicide seemed to be primarily due to evaporation.
