A clinical study of electroacupuncture on mild and moderate traumatic brain injury with memory and cognitive impairment

2003
Objective:To observe the treatment effect of electroacupuncture on mild and moderate traumatic brain injury with memory and cognitive impairment. Method: 40 patients with mild and moderate traumatic brain injury were divided randomly into traditional treatment group and electroacupuncture treatment group. The functions of memory and cognition were assessed with memory quotient(MQ) and mini mental status examination (MMSE) respectively before and after treatment. Result:The functions of memory and cognition in both groups were improved distinctly after treatment. The memory of electroacupuncture treatment group was improved more dramatically than that of traditional treatment group (t=3.216,P0.05). There was no statistical difference in MMSE values between the two groups. Conclusion:Electroacupuncture can improve the memory function in patients with mild and moderate traumatic brain injury.
