Robotic Single-Site Surgery

Since their introduction in the surgical field, single-access laparoendoscopic surgery and robotic surgery platforms have evolved significantly through the years. Their combination brought to the surface unique abilities and potential for completing successfully robotic single-site operations that have proved to be extremely challenging even for laparoendoscopic surgeons with mass experience. Lately, robotic single-site approach has been utilized successfully in a gradually expanding list of operations, ranging from demanding fields of abdominal surgery such as hepatobiliary pancreatic surgery to other surgical specialties such as urology and gynecology. In this chapter, we present an overview of robotic single-site surgery with emphasis on the historical evolution of this technology, the available platforms, and the published evidence in the literature.
