The invention provides a retrieval device and a retrieval method. The retrieval device comprises a segmentation module used for segmenting created reverse indexes, a query module used for querying a plurality of reverse indexes corresponding to a plurality of key words used for retrieving, a division module used for dividing the plurality of reverse indexes into a plurality of sections according to the segmenting status of the plurality of reverse indexes, a concurrent retrieval module used for acquiring reverse indexes which are taken as a retrieved result according to the plurality of key words and through retrieving the plurality of reverse indexes, and a result-generation module used for obtaining reverse indexes which are taken as a final result and documents corresponding to the reverse indexes which are taken as the final result according to the reverse indexes which are taken as the retrieved result. According to the retrieval device and the retrieval method, through segmenting the reverse indexes, subsequent retrieval operation can be proceeded concurrently, parallel processing technique is effectively used, and the efficiency of retrieval can be greatly improved.
