Preglacial Structure of Georges Basin and Northeast Channel, Gulf of Maine: GEOLOGICAL NOTES

1968
Data from continuous seismic-reflection profiles across the Gulf of Maine indicate that Georges Basin and Northeast Channel (1) predate glaciation, (2) were formed by fluvial erosion, and (3) were sites of a well-developed pre-Tertiary drainage system, as shown by the presence of eroded Cretaceous sediments unconformably beneath relatively undeformed Tertiary deposits.
