APICAL WALL STRUCTURE IN HYPHAE OF PHYTOPHTHORA PARASITICA

1973
SUMMARY Apical hyphal walls in rapidly growing 48-hour cultures of Phytophthora are significantly thinner than mature non-apical walls from 7-day cultures. Enzymic treatments have shown that in young apices the outer layer of wall glucan is attenuated as compared with mature regions and it is suggested that there is less protein associated with the cellulose microfibrils in the inner part of the wall.
