O Capital e a Cultura

2020
Although Marx has not written any specific work on culture, it is possible to glimpse in his work elements of cultural studies from the perspective of the critique of political economy. The starting point of the paper is the differentiation between two specific dimensions of culture: culture as a particular way of life and culture as cultural production. In both, the intention is to perceive the peculiarities of culture when appropriated by capital. In this sense, some of Marx’s writings will be covered to extract points of contact between capital and culture, specifically how the dominant social relation of production in the capitalist mode of production is also determinant for the cultural field. Thus, some elements of the political economy of culture in Marx will be presented.
