Identifying areas for ecotourism in Northern Ontario: application of a geographical information system methodology.

1994
Ecotourism has become one of the most rapidly growing forms of tourism in recent years and has spread from primarily tropical areas to a wide range of environments. This expansion has often taken place without appropriate evaluation of destination areas as to their suitability for ecotourism. This paper discusses a methodology for identifying areas with the potential for ecotourism in the context of Northern Ontario. The authors discuss the application of the methodology in a sample study area in Northern Ontario, and evaluate the findings and implications.
