Security and Stability Improvement of Power System Due to Interconnection of DG to the Grid

2016
This paper developed a novel method to improve the performance of power network based on system stability, namely voltage stability index and line stability factor, as well as system security that is a bus voltage vocation factor and thermal limits of the transmission line. This method has been analyzed and evaluated in a standard test system due to the interconnection of a distributed generation (DG) into a grid as an anticipation to an increase in load demand. To ensure the stability and security of the system as a result of the interconnection of the DG, an optimal placement of one type of shunt Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) controller, namely Static Var Compensator (SVC), is conducted. The device which is proficient for injecting and absorbing reactive power is modeled and subsequently combined in Newton Raphson power flow analysis. The effectiveness of the methodology developed has been successfully tested on IEEE 14-bus standard test system with integration of the DG into the test system.
