REPORT OF THE MANAGING EDITOR APRIL 1, 1976-APRIL 30, 1977

1977 
During 1976 and the first half of 1977 we received 52 articles, of which 19 have been accepted for publication. Roughly half the articles to be published are in the field of modern literature, the other half fairly evenly divided between linguistics and medieval literature, and, on the other hand, social science. Of the two special issues announced at our last annual meeting, the one devoted to the Danes in the 19th-century American Midwest appeared as no. 4 of volume 48. For this issue we received a subvention from the Danish Government. The Scandinavian short story issue containing translations and commentaries will appear as no. 2 of volume 49, hopefully close to normal printing schedule in June. Rather than turning exclusively to scholars/translators with established reputations, we have tried here, as in our other issues, to encourage contributions from younger scholars. Some of these have done substantial work with the theory of the short prose forms and are well versed in recent international advances within the field of criticism. It was our
