A SINGLE SPOT LIGHT should be on the soloist; not too dramatic. The piano, facing upstage (keyboard facing the audience) should have a very pale spot on it. The piano should have the sustain pedal down throughout. Please use a stick or object and not a pianist! At the section marked "walk toward piano," the soloist should slowly walk to the piano, stopping at various times. The soloist's spot should fade during this section and be completely out by the time the soloist reaches the piano. By the last two notes the player should be at the piano bench facing the audience. After the last two high notes the soloist should turn around and sit on the piano bench. The soloist then plays the slow section and ends the work by playing the last chord on the piano. At
