DC Resistance Performance of the Low-Resistance $\hbox{Nb}_{3}\hbox{Sn}$ Joints for the CHMFL Hybrid Magnet

The superconducting coils of a 40-T hybrid magnet were designed with Nb
3
Sn cable-in-conduit conductors wound in layers or double pancakes, which are connected in series by joints. Two kinds of electrical joints have been designed for the different terminals of the superconducting coils. The “terminal joint” is for the joints between the terminals of the superconducting coils and the ends of NbTi buslines. The “interlayer joint” is for the joints between the layers of the coils. Two prototype joint samples have been manufactured, and their dc resistance tested. The joints' manufacturing process and test results are presented in this paper.
