Complementary Procedures for Sampling Small Benthic Invertebrates

1980
Two procedures for sampling small benthic invertebrates were used in Grane Langs0, Denmark during July, 1977. The Kajak sampler, a core sampler, was best at collecting larger, non-swimming organisms such as Nematoda, Oligochaeta, and most insects. Funnel trapping, a method that relies on vertical movement, was most efficient at collecting most microcrustaceans, and some early instars of insects. We recommend the use of both sampling procedures for gaining a reasonably complete fauna list of small, benthic invertebrates.
