On the possibility of 600 MeV proton beam use to study seach radiation damage of fusion reactor materials

1994
Abstract Neutron, primary and secondary proton fluxes inside the beam target of the Moscow Meson Facility are calculated. Radiation damages of the beam target construction materials are shown to be similar to that of the first wall materials in a fusion reactor, as compared by means of the helium production displacement rate ratio criterion. Evaluation of the equivalent in the damage rate neutron flux and the displacement rate inside the beam target gives the values of ∼1015 n/cm2 s and ∼10∼6 dpa/s, respectively, in rather large irradiation volume of ∼300 cm3. The equivalent neutron flux ∼1017 n/cm2s can be achieved outside the beam target in the primary proton beam. This value is high enough for the express analysis of construction materials.
