: Lightning strikes are the second leading cause of death caused by bad weather in most of the world, mainly involving men aged 15 to 45 years during outdoor activities. Injuries caused by lightning are generally more superficial than direct contact electrocution, due to very short contact and can occur following a direct hit, following radial diffusion of the current after a lightning strike has hit the ground, or following an outbreak. The spectrum of lightning skin manifestations includes burns of various degree, eyelid and conjunctival petechiae, dotted full-thickness skin loss, thermal burns from inflamed clothing and contact burns from the ground.
