Grundwasser oder Oberflächenwasser für die Trinkwasserversorgung?: Die Debatte von 1930 in VOM WASSER

2003
This historical review is based on two overview articles by Haupt and Bruns in 1930, published in the fourth volume of VOM WASSER on the topic of drinking water supply out of ground and surface waters. The water quantities supplied in Germany in 1930 are compared with recent data, indicating a shift to increased use of natural groundwaters. The advantages and disadvantages of ground and surface waters are discussed in detail by the authors concerning major quality parameters and hygienic aspects. Water treatment is an essential part of the debate, including rules and experiences on subtopics of coagulation, filtration and chlorination. Most experience based proposals and technical rules given by Haupt and Bruns can be found in the modern technical philosophy of water treatment and supply.
