End User Receptivity: An Important Factor in the Design of a Distributed Multimedia System

1996
The computer distorts the act of viewing motion pictures from a screen as it has traditionally been perceived. It is significant that this facility is now called a multimedia application, and not a television channel. In essence, a virtual television (a multimedia application window) is constructed, which when connected to a data network, can be programmed or scheduled, similar to the way that television networks program their lineups. Putting computing into a television was an achievement, but putting television into a computer is quiet a different matter.
