Efficient modelling of finite periodicity with the method of lines

2013
In this paper a very useful development in the method of lines (MoL) is shown, which makes the method to a competitive tool for the analysis of cascaded structures with a finite number repetitive sections. Full discretization methods are either very time-consuming for these finite periodic circuits, or they make use of periodic boundaries assuming an infinite structure instead. The MoL enables an efficient full-wave analysis by considering correctly only a finite number of repetitions. The CPU time of the calculation is completely independent of the number of periods because of the analytical solution in longitudinal direction and the use of Floquet modes as eigensolutions. Results for a CRLH-transmission line with several periods are shown.
