Implementation of the marine engine simulator in the fault diagnosis of the heavy fuel oil supply pumps

2011
Simulating the most relevant faults of heavy fuel supply pump of the large two-stroke marine diesel engine MAN B&W 5L90MC on Full Mission Engine Room simulator Kongsberg Norcontrol type PPT 2000, the relations between symptoms and faults were studied and analyzed. Using fault tree analysis a better visualization of relations that starts from faults to symptoms are provided. Symptoms behavior in time has been presented by binary table. Table data analysis has been conducted by fuzzy rules. This paper gives a especial review on implementation of the simulator in scientific research. Simulator enables tracking of system behavior without additional cost and consequences comparing with real system. In this way students gain skills and experiences which are crucial for proper and rapid response in real situation on board ship.
