Decay of aerosols in small and very small vessels and a static method for determining the size of condensation nuclei

1955
Recently in meteorology the tendency becomes apparent to seek information on the size of the condensation nuclei and their nature as well as their concentration. Experiments with this aim were made byG. Hentschel in 1954 using the «selective filling method» already applied byE. Effenberger. It is claimed that the numerical characteristic of the sample — the sum of the percentage losses between successive counts of nuclei — which he uses enables one to ascertain the «sizecharacter» of the aerosol in addition to its concentration and to discriminate between man-made and natural influences on aerosols.Hentschel gives no quantitative relationship between his characteristic and size of nuclei nor has he attempted to establish one.
