Studies on prediction models for concrete durability

In this paper the UCT Service Life Model is discussed, which deals with the lifetime prediction of concrete structures in marine environments using the South African Durability Index approach. An extensive study is being carried out both in the laboratory and on site. In this research, the UCT Service Life Model is to be re-formulated and further calibrated primarily for providing a basis for durability analysis and design of concrete structures in the marine environment taking into account the range of different available materials, as well as the different marine environmental conditions in South Africa. This should assist in obtaining better durability predictions, and result in improved design of long-term performance of new concrete structures in the marine environment.
