Size distribution and particle shape of iron ore powder based on the fractal theory

The size distribution and particle shape of various iron ores are measured in this paper, then the ballability index and compression strength of green pellet of different iron ores are examined. The particle fractal dimensions of particle size distribution and texture are calculated based on fractal theory. Research shows that the size distribution of iron ores has obvious fractal characters. The fractal dimension of size distribution is significantly related with balling index and specific surface area of particle. Particle shape can be characterised by texture fractal dimension. At the same size level, smaller fractal dimension means smoother particle and smaller compression strength of pellet. The relationship between the texture feature parameters and compressive strength of the pellet is obtained.
