Stereoselective synthesis of bis-hydroxy-tetrahydrofurans using cross metathesis

A short asymmetric approach for the synthesis of bis-tetrahydrofuran units of various annonaceous acetogenins is described. The key steps of the synthesis are self-cross metathesis and Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation.
