The use of summer annual forage crops as supplementary feed for dairy and beef cattle has in recent years become extensive in humid regions of the United States. The primary asset of these crops is that they provide a source of fresh forage during the midsummer period when perennial forage species are often unproductive. In the Northeast and North Central regions of the United States, the most widely used summer annual forage crops are sudangrass, sudangrass hybrids, and sorghum-sudangrass hybrids, and sorghum sudangrass hybrids.
