Basic consideration of switched reluctance motor with auxiliary windings and permanent magnets

2012
The conventional switched reluctance (SR) motor has following features: low cost, extremely robust, and a wide range of variable speed drives. This paper presents a novel SR motor that has auxiliary windings and permanent magnets (PMs) in the stator yoke. The permanent magnets are used to reduce magnetic saturation of stator core, and the auxiliary windings, which are excited by a dc current, work as field magnets. First, the basic characteristics of the proposed SR motor are calculated by a finite element method (FEM). Next, to validate the usefulness of the proposed SR motor, trial experiments are performed.
