Hydrogenation of Heavy Aromatics in Oil over NiMoN_x/γ-Al_2O_3 Catalysts

2002
NiMoN x/γ-Al 2O 3,a γ-alumina supported bimetallic transition metal nitride, was synthesized as a catalyst, using ammonium molybdate and nickel nitrate as active precursor, and by means of multi-step impregnation and NH 3-TPR.No.165 solvent oil was used to study the process parameter of heavy-aromatics in the oil hydrogenation over the catalysts. Results from XPS characterization were used to illustrate surface reduction properties and the role of Ni metal in the reaction. The reasons for reduction before reaction and surface ion state changes during reduction were also illustrated. It is concluded that Ni sites and activated hydrogen Mo sites on the catalysts create and modify the catalytic active sites which are also responsible for oil hydrogenation reaction.
