Image color enhancement device and method

The invention relates to an image color enhancement device and a method; the device comprises a color space conversion module for converting the input image data to an HSV (hue, saturation and value) space from an RGB (red, green, blue) space; a gain function generating module based on chroma for receiving a chroma adjustment range set by a user to generate a gain function based on chroma of the chromaticity division ; a gain function generating module based on saturation for generating a gain function based on saturation in the chroma adjustment range set by the user; and a saturation enhancement module for enhancing the saturation by utilizing the gain function based on chroma and the gain function based on saturation. In the invention, the transitional gain functions in different chromaticity divisions are adopted, threshold values for the divisions with too high and too low saturation component are set, proper enhancement is only carried out to the middle-stage part of the saturation component, so as to realize to protect the saturation component, enable a video image to be softer and play a good role in protecting the visual sense of people.
