Micro-elimination: A Key Component of Global Hepatitis C Elimination

2021
As presented in Chap. 1, in 2016 the World Health Organization (WHO) adopted the Global Health Sector Strategy on Viral Hepatitis 2016–2021 [1], to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030, expanding on target 3.3 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) [2]: to “combat viral hepatitis” [3]. The strategy relies on five strategic directions, a set of priority actions for both member states and WHO itself, and three frameworks for action (Box 14.1), including universal health coverage (UHC) as the overarching framework, a public health approach, and the concept of continuum of services.
