Study of the Spin Reorientation in Co‐ and Cr‐Substituted YFeO3

The effect of substituting Co or Cr for Fe in the systems YFe1−xCoxO3 and YFe1−xCrxO3 has been studied by neutron and x‐ray diffraction as well as magnetization measurements. In contrast with the earlier single crystal data, no spin reorientation could be observed at small values of x in polycrystalline samples. In the YFe1−xCrxO3 system a rotation of the magnetic moments in the a‐c plane was found at around x=0.5. The observation of the spin reorientation in polycrystalline YFe0.98Co0.01Ti0.01O3 is taken as an evidence that the drastic effects of Co‐doping can be attributed to the presence of Co2+ ions.
