An Optimal Function-Provided Scheme for Energy Storage System Configured in Windfarm

2020
With the increasing penetration of wind energy into the system, the natural characteristic of the wind power challenges the operation of the system. In the company of the maturity of energy storage technologies, the utility-scale energy storage system (ESS) is suggested to be a practical solution for windfarm operation. Owing to the multiple functions required to the ESS in the windfarm, the capacity usage planning of the ESS needs better optimization for balancing the financial objectives and emergency support needs. In this paper, an optimal function-provided scheme and corresponding control strategies for ESS configured in the windfarm is proposed. The proposed optimal function-provided scheme could reasonably plan the usage of the ESS in the windfarm so that the financial benefit bringing and emergency power support capacity could be ensured at the same time. A case study has been provided at the end of the paper. With the simulation results, the proposed optimal function-provided scheme finds the equilibrium of multiple functions coordination of ESS and every function’s performance guaranteed.
