Scattering of electromagnetic waves in millimeter range from canonic scatterers

1998
Summary form only given. Theoretical investigations on the diffraction of electromagnetic waves from canonical scatterers: a wedge, a semi-plane and a strip, are of current interest for many researchers. It is important to separate two areas of the parameters of the objects under investigation, as they influence the choice of approach to solving the scattering problems. These are the high-frequency (ka/spl Gt/1) and the low-frequency (Ka/spl Lt/1) areas, where k is the wavenumber and a is the characteristic dimension. As a rule, in practical situations in millimeter range the intermediate situation is realized (k/spl sime/1-10). In this situation, the calculations are carried out by approximate methods and determining the criteria of their validity based on the comparison of the theory and the experiment is important. The measurement method of the diffraction field is presented, the characteristics of the scattering from the canonic scatterers and a comparison of the results with the theoretical ones obtained from the physical theory of diffraction are given.
