Education is a place to form human beings into good citizens, who focus on the learning process to help students explore, discover, learn, know and live values that are useful, both for themselves, society and the country as a whole. The purpose of this study was to find out how to plant characters through puppet media and documentary films, and to know the different ways of planting national character through wayang hero media and documentary films of fourth grade students of SD Negeri 9 Purwodadi. The method in this study is comparative research with a quasi-experimental approach to data collection methods using questionnaires, interviews, observation, and documentation. The primary data in the form of questionnaire results analyzed using the Independent Sample T-Test showed that the wayang hero media and documentary film media showed a significant increase between the results of the pretest and posttest, indicating that the wayang pahlawam media and documentary film media could instill national character to students. wayang hero media and documentary film media have significant differences in instilling national character from the results of the average results of posttest wayang hero 72.78 while the documentary film 75.26 shows that documentary films are more able to instill national character.
