The GP Trainer and Practice Manager
2021
This chapter has been written for intending/new GP Trainers, their Practice Managers, new Training Program Directors and any other colleagues in the practice who are interested. Positives include the contact with young doctors, which is stimulating and keeps everyone more in touch with developments in general practice. There will be considerable organizational issues by way of rearranging timetables and schedules to accommodate a new role in the practice. Service delivery versus education can often be a tricky balance to achieve. Some PMs have undertaken Certificates in Medical Education – in other words, they are Primary Care Educators in their own right; but they are few and far between. Most PMs can undoubtedly help with the meaty bit of the trainee’s education too – particularly with regard to practice management and organization – the people are not just talking about finances.
