Intercalibration of Two Echo Integration Systems based on Acoustic Backscattering Measurements
1987
A joint Canada/U.S. survey for Pacific hake (Merluccius productus) was performed in 1983. As part of this survey two vessels made 350 pairs of acoustic backscattering strength measurements while the vessels steamed along side-by-side. A stochastic model was developed to analyse these data and to test for any departure from the null hypothesis of equal measured backscattering strengths. The null hypothesis was rejected. Several possible explanations for the observed differences are examined.
