Characteristics of Competence Evaluation of Resilience in the Chronic Diseases Treatment: An Examination of Medical Engineers Who Conduct Hemodialysis

2018
Relevant societies have created guidelines on the tasks of medical engineers (ME) during hemodialysis (HD). However, patients differ in terms of characteristics such as physical features, and requests related to past treatment. Additionally, as the physical condition of each patient is always changing, MEs need to perform resiliently to respond to such situational changes. It is therefore important to evaluate the resilience competencies of ME novices. Most medical studies on competence evaluation have focused on the treatment of acute conditions (e.g., surgery) in which the medical staff have to respond to real-time changing situations. However, in HD, each patient’s historical information, including past HD treatments, is a very important source for MEs’ resilient behavior. Therefore, it is important to evaluate their competencies with reference to these characteristics. In the present study, based on Miller’s pyramid, we classified the MEs’ competencies and examined the characteristics of competence evaluation in HD.
