Numerical analysis of surface Bragg grating parameters for the all-electic laser beam angular modulator

2020
Calculation of the design parameters of modulator-chip based on semiconductor heterostructure with a surface Bragg grating, which provide the maximum energy efficiency, widest field of view, and highest resolution for angle modulation of laser beam was carried out. Numerical analysis of the effect of Bragg grating period, optical confinement factor, fill factor, and length on the outcoupling laser beam characteristic was performed. Distribution of power between several diffraction orders depending on geometry shape and fill factor of grating groove was studied. It is shown that using a multiple quantum well semiconductor heterostructure that gives a modal effective refractive index change by 0.007 via electrooptic modulation provides laser beam steering more than 5 degrees, with resolution more than 100 points.
