Termination of early pregnancy (menstrual induction) with 16-phenoxy-ω-tetranor PGE2 methylsulfonylamide

1977
Abstract A new synthetic analogue of prostaglandin E 2 , 16-phenoxy-ω-tetranor PGE 2 methylsulfonylamide was used for termination of early pregnancy (Menstrual Induction) in 240 women with a delay in menstruation of 6 to 14 days. The drug was administered as a single dose of 50 μg into the uterine cavity. The treatment was successful in 228 patients (95%). Side effects included vomiting in thirteen patients and headache in nine. Two patients were treated for pelvic infection a few days after treatment with prostaglandin. Curettage was carried out in 2 patients for heavy bleeding the day after the treatment with prostaglandin. In another three patients curettage was carried out for intermittent bleeding 2–3 weeks after successful treatment with prostaglandin.
