A process for producing cyclopolyenes (1,5, . . . . 4n + 5) having 8 + 4n carbon atoms where n is an integer of from 1 to 7 comprising polymerizing cyclooctadiene in the presence of a rhenium catalyst using alumina or alumina-boria as a carrier. Cycloalkenes are useful as intermediates in perfumery and as additives for cosmetics.
