Analysis, Design, and Future Perspectives of Luxury Features

2020
The concept of luxury must increasingly be understood intellectually. Abbot Daniel Schonbachler of the almost 1500-year-old monastery in Disentis, Switzerland, describes how luxury must be defined far beyond the material concept, how it encompasses the level of spirituality, and how the goal becomes the journey to one’s own self, to one’s own center. He sums up that the goal must not be adventure, but experience. Hannes Gurzki emphasizes the outstanding importance of status in society, which goes hand in hand with consumption and possession of luxury, while Verena Zaugg-Faszl addresses the demands of space and architecture as an expression of luxury. Terms such as stealth design, understatement, and what makes a room a good room are explained here. Philipp Schmidt describes the effects of nature on humans. He discusses the question of which messenger substances the body releases during an intensive confrontation with nature and how pure nature creates true feelings of happiness.
