Pulse train in transmission lines with semiconductor amplifiers – an analytical study

We develop a model that permits the derivation of simple analytical expressions for the energy evolution of any pulse of an equidistant train in a transmission line where the loss is compensated by semiconductor optical amplifiers. Taking advantage of this result the critical bit rate restricting the performance of the system can be evaluated. Numerical studies confirm the analytical findings.
