Dermatologists who have had difficulty with a patient's compliance with topical therapy for acne will certainly appreciate this book and may wish to recommend it to their patients. The major part of the text is written at a layman's level; however, there is a summary of Dr Flandermeyer's therapeutic principles at the end of the text for physicians. These principles are not new but are very clearly stated. The author begins by explaining, in question-and-answer form, the major problems and questions people with acne have. He briefly answers these questions at the beginning and then responds to them more thoroughly in subsequent chapters. Cogent points regarding hirsute women and the sudden onset of acne in women are well made. Dr Flandermeyer explains clearly, with the aid of excellent illustrations, the different types of acne lesions.
