INCREASE IN CIRCULATING AND NEUTROPHIL-MEDIATED RELEASE OF INTERLEUKIN-1 RECEPTOR ANTAGONIST IN PATIENTS WITH ADVANCED HEART FAILURE
2014
ciency, amongst our heart failure patients, reduced serum levels of Vitamin D did not correlate with poor baseline characteristics. Vitamin D deficiency was however associated with elevated levels of serum PIIINP, which has been shown to be a poor prognostic marker in patients with ventricular dysfunction. Whether Vitamin D deficiency leads poor clinical outcome in our population remains to be elucidated. Furthermore, the molecular mechanism by which vitamin D deficiency results in increased collagen turnover and it overall cardiac sequeale remains to be elucidated.
