OPTIMAL CONFIGURATIONS WITH MAXIMUM LIFT-TO-DRAG RATIO IN THE CONTEXT OF THE LOCAL INTERACTION MODEL

2008
The problem on the configurations with maximum lift-to-drag ratio is solved assuming that the pressure coefficient on the body surface is defined by the angle between the local normal to this surface and velocity vector of undisturbed flow. If pressure coefficient is constant and base area is given then the optimal configuration has a flat windward surface at incidence to the velocity vector of undisturbed flow. Lee-side surface of the optimal configuration is parallel to the velocity vector of undisturbed flow. A two-dimensional wedge is absolutely optimal configuration.
