High prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in affluent urban Indians

Abstract The highest prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in developing countries occurs in the upper socio-economic group, but this has not been well documented in Indians. The age and sex standardized prevalence of diabetes in 1112 affluent adult Indian subjects was 21.1%. This is the highest prevalence of diabetes reported from India.
