Immunologic similarities between Goodpasture's and Steblay's antibodies

1982
Abstract Previously it has been demonstrated that antibody eluted from kidney of a patient with Goodpasture (GP) syndrome reacted by immunofluorescence in a single linear pattern along the glomerular basement membrane (GBM). In the present study we demonstrate that antibody eluted from kidneys of sheep with Steblay's (ST) nephritis also reacts in a single linear pattern along the GBM and in the same locus as the GP antibody. The reaction of both the ST and GP antibodies with GBM is completely inhibited by prior absorption with soluble collagenase-digested GBM. ST antibody inhibits the reaction of GP antibody with GBM suggesting that antigenic determinant(s) reactive with both antibodies are shared.
