Anodic dissolution of cemented carbides of the type (TiC, M) (M = Co, Ni, or Fe) in 0.5 M H{sub 2}SO{sub 4} solution

1994
Electrodes prepared from sintered titanium carbide (TiC) containing 10 vol % of cobalt, nickel, or iron binder, with Vickers hardness > 2000 kg/mm{sup 2}, were investigated in 0.5 M H{sub 2}SO{sub 4}. The quasi-potentio-static, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy methods were applied. The electrode reaction mechanisms are discussed and the electrical equivalent circuits are calculated for the electrode processes at the respective steady state (E{sub ss}), activation current peak (E{sub p}), and passivation (E{sub pas}) potentials.
