Stereophonic acoustic echo canceller using single adaptive filter per channel

1998
A conventional stereophonic acoustic echo canceller uses two adaptive filters to derive an estimate of one channel echo signal. Due to the strong correlation between the two channel signals, stereophonic echo canceller have various problems. Moreover, the computational complexity is about four times of the single channel system. In this paper, we introduce a pre-processing block deployed on the stereophonic echo canceller to generate the pseudo stereophonic signals. By utilzing the pseudo stereophonic signals, the echo signal can be estimated with single adaptive filter. The performance degradation due to the changes of the transmission room environment can be alleviated. Subjective tests show the validity of the pseudo stereophonic signals. 1
