Predicción del tiempo de estancia hospitalaria del paciente hemipléjico

2000
Objective: Examine the factors that influence the duration of the sojourn in a rehabilitation hospital unit for hemiplegic patients in a Spanish hospital. Material and methods: Analyze the influence of 22 clinical variables that are preselected and taken at different times of the evolution in the duration of stay of 556 patients studied retrospectively from their clinical histories. Results: A high score on the Brunstromm scale on the phase of the hand and of the lower limb on admission to the rehabilitation unit were the variables that were most associated with a shorter duration of stay, while the days of delay from the stroke until hospitalization was the variable that most affected the lengthening of the sojourn time. Discussion: Based on the variables that demonstrated a better correlation, multiple regression equations were calculated and made it possible to predict the sojourn time of a patient on admission to the hospital; therefore, this can be an instrument which is of practical use for the management of a hemiplegic rehabilitation unit.
